The Oldswinford C. E. Primary School Web Site first appeared on the Web in 2000 when an enthusiastic member of Staff took up the mantle of ICT Co-ordinator. It was a simple site with general information about the school. The site was redesigned in 2001 but lay dormant for about a year after the member of Staff left until the current Webmaster took an interest. Within a month of the New Launch , June 2004, the site was awarded Gold in the 'Golden Web Awards'. It was built using 'Publisher' - after growing in to 15 zones containing 1000's of pages it soon became too big for the programme - which frequently crashed. A year after the re-launch the Webmaster took the bold decision to re-design the whole site using 'Front Page' - a more up to date programme for web sites. The summer of 2005 was spent re-designing the New OCEPS Website. September 2005 the third generation of the OCEPS Website was successfully launched. There are plans to develop the site further - like most things the more you use the more you learn. The Webmaster is still learning. Research of School Websites across the country has revealed that we are still many light years behind the very best sites as there are some really excellent school websites out there. The OCEPS Website will develop with our 'website aim' in focus. That is to produce a site that informs, challenges young minds and allows us to share the school's achievements and successes with the local community and beyond. An offshoot that developed from the History Zone is the Ex Pupil & Staff Zone. Within this zone we have included school images from the decades; memories of the school by ex Staff & pupils and an opportunity for ex staff and pupils to contact the school. In fact one such ex pupil contacted the school 69 years after leaving in 1936 and has provided us with an insight of his schooldays in the 1930's. Another extraordinary development was when, in 2006, the great, great, great Grandson of the 1st Head of Old Swinford School [Mr Levi Peak] contacted the school via the website from Australia. An awareness of the site within the pupil and parent population has been a priority over the last 3 years. A website without an audience is fruitless. Fliers and information sheets have regularly been distributed home by 'pupil' post. The most recent innovation has been the Staff Secure Zone - designed for Staff to access school files at home. The largest expanding Zone has been the Junior Curricular Links Zone which now links to literally thousands and thousands of web sites covering all the Junior curriculum subjects and many, many, more useful topics. During 2007 plans were afoot to launch the OCEPS Website independently to the LEA. This plan was shelved as the Webmaster retired summer 2008 and the future of School Communication was taken over by Dudley School Portal. |
