Harvington Hall is a beautiful place to visit.

Harvington Hall

The Hall is situated three miles south-east of Kidderminster, about half a mile east of the A450 Birmingham to Worcester road and about half-a-mile north of the A448 from Kidderminster to Bromsgrove. Grid. Ref. SO877745. (Just outside the Dog at Harvington)

It is a gorgeous Mediaeval and Tudor moated manor house- and thankfully one where the moat is still full (lots of people these days drain them as they are difficult to keep). It is just off a road where people drive very often without even realising it is there.

It's a great place to visit because it is usually not too busy, and if you go at bank holidays, there are often people dressed up who will talk to you and explain more about the house. A really special place, but my favourite bit is the huge amount of priest holes. these were special hiding places that were made to hide priests in the days when it was against the law to be a catholic priest in this country. Anybody found to be having a priest in their house would have been burnt at the stake, so the owners of Harvington went to a lot of trouble to make a place so that their visiting priests could not be found. There are all sorts of bit of the house that look really sturdy, but can fold back to let people hide in them, and yes before you ask- Miss H has tried a few of them out, and doesn't think she would have liked to have been shut in for very long at all!
