Lunt Roman fort is near Coventry, and is a recreation of what a roman fort would have looked like.  I first came across it on a BBC video for schools. It looked marvellous and very realistic. The sad news is that when I visited last year, it was in a pretty miserable state. The fort relies on donations and can not afford to carry out repair work, so it is beginning to decay badly, and as you can see from my photos, the Site-X fencing does spoil the effect somewhat. You can still climb the gatehouse- which I managed with great difficulty. I was a little disappointed but was luck to see the resident legion practicing on that day. One for enthusiasts, nice to look at, but don't expect too much.....
